Let’s protect Polannaruwa from flood devastation

 

The Polannaruwa has become the prey of ongoing flood. The reservoirs and tanks surrounded by Polannaruwa over flowing with flood waters, in addition to continuingtorrential rain water.  Several spill gates of Parakrama Samudraya, Kawudulla and Minneriya tanks have been opened. Galella, Manampitiya area in Polonnaruwa- Batticaloa road is impassable due to flooding.


 Many villages are submerged in water including Medegiriya town confirmed district Secretary Polannaruwa and the disaster t Management centre. Flood is flowing over the roofs. Now evacuation process is being done by the government and volunteer organizations and social activists.


The many small hamlets and villages already badly affected by flood, now repeatedly affected. Thampala, Divulana, Sungavil ,GalEla, Mannampity, Maanikkampity, Bangurana, Pallithidal, Ahamedpura, Hathamuna, Onegama and Puthoor  are the worst affected and people are shifted and moving towards safe places.  More than 25,000 families are affected All access towards Polannaruwa district is cut off.

 

 

 350 families from Divulana and 150 families from Maanikampity of Muslim colony have displaced to Polannaruwa Muslim Central College .


100 families of Deevara Gammana of Thampala displaced to Alhilal Central college of Thampala.


More than 25,000 families badly affected and majority of them are suspect whether they can perfom Friday Jumma Prayer since the Mosques are under the water.


MFCD is facilitating to provide cooked food with the help of Polannaruwa volunteers. Hence we expect all possible support to take immediate measures to serve Polannaruwa flood affected victims.  Your financial supports are welcome.
