World-class CIMA students win world prizes

shiromy-ali-hazir-shafeekShiromy Ali and Hazir Shafeek continued the global dominance of Sri Lankan CIMA students when they recently snagged world prizes for their recent examination performances. As young individuals looking to rapidly ascend the corporate ladder, the world-renowned finance qualification has been a perfect fit for Shiromy, Hazir, and thousands of like-minded students around the world. Indeed, surveys of global business leaders have shown that CIMA, the world’s largest professional body of management accountants, offers the most relevant finance qualification for those looking to excel in the business and corporate spheres.

In celebrating Shiromy’s and Hazir’s incredible achievements, the global accountancy body has recognized not only their consistent excellence, but also the fact that the quality of their local education has placed them amongst the world’s very best. Shiromy and Hazir paid tribute to the tireless work of the lecturers at their respective CIMA institutes. Hazir cited “the personalized coaching of the lecturers at Achievers, especially Mr. Krishkumar and Mr. Dellon” as a driving factor behind his success while Shiromy lauded the efforts of her lecturer at Virtual Business School, Mr. Gajandra Liyanaarachchi, for giving her “clear guidance and personal attention.” Based on their results, and those of previous Sri Lankan world prize-winners, it’s apparent that the quality of CIMA education in Sri Lanka is truly world-class.

Befitting their outsized achievements, Shiromy and Hazir also harbor impressive ambitions. Noting the dearth of highly qualified local entrepreneurs, Shiromy stated her desire to help in the economic and social development of the country by becoming a leading businesswoman. As a final year student reading for her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Colombo, this enterprising young woman’s more immediate plans involve completing her degree with first class honors and joining the corporate sector. Upon getting considerable working experience under her belt, Shiromy also wishes to obtain her Master’s degree in Business Administration.

Hazir too plans on completing an MBA focusing on Management and aspires to scale the rungs of the corporate world, eventually reaching its pinnacle as a well-respected CEO. Highlighting the difference between academic qualifications and CIMA, both Shiromy and Hazir pointed out that CIMA provides continuous professional development, with constantly updated syllabi and unique opportunities for global recognition. Shiromy emphasized that CIMA had enhanced her professionalism by giving her the chance to network with luminaries in the local and international business communities. Indeed, upon joining CIMA, students plug into a prestigious and far-reaching professional organization that can generate countless opportunities for rapid career development.

Responsible for molding some of the most influential CEOs in the world, CIMA is continually sharpening its focus by adapting its courses to the needs of global business leaders. Recent developments in the international financial environment, for example, have spurred the organization to emphasize the ethical dimensions of accountancy and management. Not content to merely follow trends, however, CIMA has distinguished itself as a thought leader by stimulating a lively debate on the causes and consequences of the recent financial turmoil. This innovative approach to setting the global financial agenda is clearly exemplified in the achievements of Hazir and Shiromy who, having already set the world of business education on its head, look sure to lead the Sri Lankan business community proudly onto the global stage.
