Malaysian Scholarships 2011

The Scholarship Division of the Ministry of Higher Education provides several scholarship programmes to international students to pursue their higher education in Malaysia. The financial aid provided by the Scholarship Division, MOHE are:

i) Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan

The Malaysian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan are awarded by the Malaysian Government to the nominated students from the Commonwealth countries to study at the post-graduate level in Malaysia.
Applicants must have a minimum standard of upper second class honours or CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at bachelor’s degree level. In addition, applicants for Ph.D must possess very good result at Master degree level in a similar field of intended Ph.D study.

ii) MTCP Scholarship

The MTCP Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies provides opportunities for students to pursue advanced academic study in Malaysia. This scholarship is a Government-to-Government basis, without any bond imposed by Malaysia.
Scholarships are intended for promising candidates who may be expected to make a significant contribution to their own countries on their return from Malaysia.
Scholarships are available for post-graduate studies at Masters and Ph.D level tenable at Malaysian universities.
The duration of the award is 36 months for Ph.D and between 12 to 24 months for Masters programme.
iii) MIS Scholarship for Undergraduate Studies

Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) is a Premier Scholarship which offers opportunities to an excellent and outstanding young students to pursue their higher education in Malaysian universities.

The award are targeted for talented students with an excellent academic records and outstanding co-curriculum background to pursue their Bachelor’s Degree at selected and well established Malaysian public and private universities.

iv) MIS Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies

Malaysian International Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies provides opportunities for students from countries with diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation with Malaysia to pursue advanced academic study in Malaysia.

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote bilateral arrangement with partner countries on government to government basis, and to encourage students from other countries to study in Malaysia with the view to facilitate future collaboration and exchange of scholars in enhancing educational cooperation between Malaysia and partner countries.

Scholarships are available for post-graduate studies at Masters and Ph.D level tenable at Malaysian universities.
The duration of the award is 36 months for Ph.D and between 12 to 24 months for Masters programme.

The Awards

Each scholarship consists of:
i. a return air tickets from recipient’s capital city to Malaysia;
ii. an approved tuition fees by the respective university;
iii. a maintenance allowance per month;
iv. a yearly grant for books and internal travel;
v. thesis allowance, installation and termination grant.

How to Apply for the Scholarship

Applicants should complete the application form (in 2 copies).The following documentation must be attached with the application form:

1. A certified copy of the applicant`s current passport showing evidence of citizenship;
2. The applicant's academic transcripts, testimonials and/ or references relating to the relevant study, co-curricullum activities, achievements;
3. Curriculum vitae;
4. Passport-size photograph (2 copies);
5. Completed Medical Report;
6. A clear and precise study or research plan (for postgraduate studies);
7. English language proficiency certificate or test score (if any);
8. Admission letter from the university; and
9. Two letters of recommendation.
