Obama’s 2008 victory was not just a flash in the pan. America has now proved to the world that it is not racial as it was one time thought.
Could we ever expect in any country, in the world, a person belonged to a minority community to be elected as president and re-elected for the same position once again? No, never.
This is really heartening in this world of confrontation between religions, sects within religions and black and white. Unlike in many Third World Countries, where election results are challenged or disputed alleging fraud and rigging thus defeats not conceded, Mitt Romney made a sporty declaration accepting defeat; ‘The nation chose another leader, and so Ann and I join with you to pray for him and for this great country.’
One other remarkable feature is the election was absolutely violence free. The riots that followed the presidential election result and the dozens of deaths in Ivory Coast by the refusal to accept defeat by the incumbent president is still fresh in our mind.
We can imagine how the villagers of Kogelo, in Kenya, where Obama's grand stepmother is living, would have reacted for Obama’s re-election.
We learn that this elderly lady started to dance on hearing the result. We congratulate the American voters for their courageous decision and expect Obama to live up to their expectation.
So the first black president became the 'two term president' disproving many analysts who expected him to be just a 'one term president'.
Congratulation Obama, we wish that Martin Luther King is among the living to see that America has gone beyond the 'dream' he had then!
